Interstellar Committee for Classifications and Standards

The Interstellar Committee for Classifications and Standards is dedicated to adopting and proposing identifications to promote greater clarity and understanding. In 2525, only two years after the formation of the United Planets of Earth, the ICCS was founded to unify the disparate usages of measurement systems throughout the colonized worlds. Humanity had reached for the stars and with it grew further apart in commonality. While not recognized as an official system of the human race, we strive to unite governmental officials as well as every citizen of the universe to find peace in its clarity.

Glossary

Spacecraft or Landcraft may serve in multiple Roles beyond its primary Focus and Type.

Role – The function or part performed in a particular operation, action or process.

Type – A spacecraft or landcraft regarded as a member of a category.

Focus – The ability to perform a particular type of work. It may extend beyond a primary focus to secondary, tertiary, quaternary and so forth.

Spacecraft – A vehicle primarily designed for performance and activities within the environment of space.

Landcraft – A vehicle primarily designed for performance and activities on land.

Micro Freight – Amongst the most controversial of standards adopted by the ICCS, Micro Freight stands alone. Intermodal containers range in volumes of 1, 2, 4, 8, 16, 24 and 32 SCU. If a spacecraft or landcraft does not have the capacity to securely store 32 SCU it was deemed to not be light freight capable.

Any cargo capacity less than 32 SCU was logistically referred to as Micro Freight. The ICCS adopted the freight grade as the official standard in 2953.

Super Freight – A new era of shipping was ushered in with the advent of 1000+ SCU spacecraft. Super Freight became the official freight grade standard after decades of deliberation inside the ICCS.

Bomber – A type of spacecraft with a minimum payload of size 5.

Commerce – A type of spacecraft with an interface to buy and sell stocked items direct to consumers.

Electronic Warfare – A type of spacecraft or landcraft with an EMP device for disrupting spacecraft or landcraft electronics.

Expedition – A type of spacecraft with component(s) and equipment intended for long range self-sufficient travel and exploration.

Heavy Bomber – A type of spacecraft with a minimum payload of size 9.

Interdictor – A type of spacecraft with quantum dampening and/or quantum snaring technology.

Light Carrier – A type of spacecraft with a minimum capacity to carry and store multiple S2 spacecraft.

Medium Carrier – A type of spacecraft with a minimum capacity to carry and store multiple S3 spacecraft.

Pathfinder – A type of spacecraft which possesses technology for long-range travel but not self-sufficient. Also may have mapping/scanning/probing technology.

Prisoner Transport – A type of spacecraft with facilities for prisoner storage.

Snub – A type of spacecraft with no quantum drive resulting in a dependency on a parent ship for interplanetary travel.

Stealth – A type of spacecraft with reduced infrared, electromagnetic and cross section signatures outfitted with component(s) to further reduce emissions.
